THE IDEA for The BeautyFit Mom came to me, literally, as I lay in bed one night praying over God’s direction and vision for my future. I had recently just made the transition from working woman to stay at home mom. And though I had always dreamt of the opportunity to be a mom at home raising my children, I felt this deep sense of purpose in sharing my life and story to help motivate other women, especially moms, to live their best life and be the healthiest, best version of themselves.
Isaiah 6:8 says, “Here I am Lord. Send me!” My prayer is that The BeautyFit Mom would be a way for me to take my passions and talents (motherhood, faith, health & fitness, and beauty) and let God mold them and put them to use in a way that will inspire other’s lives for His glory.
FITNESS has been a main staple in my life since childhood. But, there came a point, during some awkward years in high school, that it wasn’t about health, but about how I looked and how thin I could get. I had braces, and gaps in my teeth, and remember feeling like the ugly duckling amongst my beautiful friends. If I couldn’t be “pretty” like the others, I’d at least be skinny! It became a game of control for my Type-A personality, to not eat or to purge when I did. I punished my body for how I felt on the inside, rather than taking care of the temple God had granted me.
Eventually, my mom caught on to what was happening and forced me to see a doctor, threatening me to be hospitalized if it didn’t stop. In retrospect, I think I wanted to get caught, because inside I was just crying out to feel worthy and accepted, a role only our Father’s love and mercy could fulfill. The doctor told me that if I continued on this path, it could very well damage my body and ruin my chances of ever having children. That was it. Becoming a mother was a role I knew that I wanted in life, more than anything. The starving and purging stopped, but it took years to mentally get to a place of loving my body and exercising for health and strength versus punishment or control.
GROWING IN FAITH, combined with finding a little program called “Turbo Jam” and it’s creator Chalene Johnson was the catalyst to change. I learned about taking care of the body for strength and health, and learned that I am capable and worthy because of my Savior. (Philippians 4:13) This newfound passion set me on a pace of working toward health, and eventually led me to the opportunity to team up with Beachbody and coach others in their quest for better health and fitness. Coaching has become the most rewarding endeavor, and I absolutely love that I can share my passion and just a small part of my testimony.
BEAUTY plays right into our health and faith. The more we take care of our health, the better our outside reflects it… Our skin glows, our eyes sparkle, and we feel good so we smile! The more we nourish our faith and relationship with Christ, the more confidence and purpose we find, the more peace we feel, and His light shines through us.
Improving our health, taking care of our bodies, and nourishing our souls are what create a life that is BeautyFit.
